Former winner of Mexico’s hit reality TV show and Pop Idol equivalent “Desafio de Estrellas”, (“Star Challenge”) Yahir is still flying high in the Mexican charts with “No te apartes de mí” (Don’t Leave Me) which has now topped 20,000 album sales in Mexico alone. But Yahir’s popularity is not confined to Mexico.

Yahir Othon Parra, the eldest of three brothers, originates from Hermosillo Sonora. Although he started out singing in bars and hotels at the age of seventeen, he has always been a natural performer and has music in his blood. His grandfather on his father’s side claims the honour of having taught the young Yahir his first song, “El ranchito”, at the tender age of seven! Yahir’s journey through the ranks of La Academia to the dizzying heights of Desafio de Estrellas success has now provoked interest from abroad.

His reputation is now building throughout Central and South America but it is in the USA that the adulation of the public has demanded another tour in May. On top this Yahir, who likes to keep busy, has begun work on a fourth album since his televised discovery. It is to be a concept album paying homage to the songs of Brazilian Roberto Carlos.
To those of you worried that the song lyrics of a notoriously powerful and uncompromising Brazilian footballer will not be suited to Yahir’s dulcet tones, or those concerned to hear Roberto Carlos had hung up his football boots before the World Cup to pursue an ill-advised singing career, I should point out that, though identical in name and nationality, Yahir will be covering the song’s of the legendary Brazilian singer songwriter Roberto Carlos. Surely a relief for Yahir’s growing army of adorers.
